Betws-y-coed is surrounded by the hills of the Gwydyr Forest.  Whatever the weather they become a wonderland of hidden surprises for the novice and seasoned walker alike.  There are many lakes, waterfalls and old Mine workings to explore.  With a large variety of plants and wildlife it's a virtual paradise for the artist.

Gwydyr Forest is  now home to the reputable MARIN Mountain Bike Trail.  There are new mountain bike trails opening in Penmachno just 5 miles away.  Dolgellau with it's Mountain Bike trails are some 40 minutes drive away. 

One of the most popular and spectacular sights are Swallow Falls.  Best seen after heavy raining.  Only a mile  away - 20 minute walk.
